San Diego Padres vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres meet for game two of their series in Arizona.  The Diamondbacks are -145 favorites over the Padres with an over/under run total set at 8.5

The Arizona Diamondbacks fell behind by five runs after two innings and never were close again taking the loss on Monday. Henry Blanco and Jay Upton both homered and had two hits while Chris Young, Melvin Mora, and Ryan Roberts each had hits as the Diamondbacks had seven hits and four runs for the night. Armando Gallaraga had another tough night as he allowed eight hits and eight runs in five innings on the mound to take his fourth loss of the year. For Tuesday’s rematch Arizona starts Daniel Hudson whom many feel is a star of the future. For the season Hudson has allowed 50 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 48 in 51 innings of work.

The San Diego Padres hardly looked like a team who isn’t hitting as on Tuesday night as they won their third game in a row. Ryan Ludwick homered and had two hits and drove in three runs, Chase Headley had three hits and scored twice, and Jason Bartlett had two hits, scored twice, and drove in two runs. On the mound Clayton Richard allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five over five and two thirds innings to get his second win of the year and to end a string of bad starts. For Tuesday’s game San Diego starts Tim Stauffer who has pitched well despite his 0-1 record. For the season Stauffer has allowed 48 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 38 in 46.2 innings of work.

Arizona is 8-4 in their last 12 home games against a team with a winning road record, 2-6 in their last eight overall, and 5-2 in Hudson’s last seven home starts. San Diego is 7-2 in their last nine against the NL West, 9-1 in Stauffer’s last 10 starts against the NL West, and 5-1 in Stauffer’s last six road starts. San Diego is 3-5 in the last eight meetings of these two.

Runs should be tough to come by here and it looks like a good chance to grab the under.  Take the under 8.5 in today’s game.
