New York Yankees vs. Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers and New York Yankees meet for game two of their series in Arlington. The Yankees are -120 favorites over the Rangers today with an over/under run total set at 10.
The Texas Rangers loss ground in the American League West on Friday as there loss coupled with an Angels win sent them another game back in the standings. David Murphy, Chris Davis, and Julio Borbon all had hits but three hits were all the Rangers managed which wasn’t nearly enough. Matt Harrison allowed just four hits but he allowed three runs as he walked five and struck out three to take his fourth loss of the year. Texas looks to bounce back on Saturday as they start Derek Holland who has had two no decisions in his last two starts. For the season Holland has allowed 46 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 31 in 38.2 innings of work.
The New York Yankees showed they still have something left to say about how the American League shakes out this season as they ended their three game losing streak with a road win in Texas. Curtis Granderson homered twice and drove in three runs, Derek Jeter had a hit and scored, and Robinson Cano and Alex Rodriguez both added hits in the winning effort. Ivan Nova allowed just two hits and a run in 7.1 innings of work to get his third win of the year while Mariano Rivera notched his 12th save of the young season. The Yankees look to make it back-to-back wins on Saturday as they start Bartolo Colon for the seventh time this year. Thus far this season Colon has allowed 30 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 33 in 33 innings of work.
Texas is 1-4 in their last five home games, 1-6 in their last seven against the AL East, and 5-2 in Holland’s last seven starts. New York is 5-1 in their last six against a team with a winning record, 4-0 in their last four road games against a left handed starter, and 66-30 in game two of a series. New York is 2-5 in their last seven games in Texas.
Just when it seems like the Yankees are ready to stumble, they prove they are still the team to beat and I think they show it once again in this spot.
