Florida Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The Florida Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies meet for game two of their series in South Florida.  The Phillies are -120 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under total set at 7 runs.

The Florida Marlins have been competitive this season but they need to make a statement in this series against the Phillies if they want to be taken seriously. On Tuesday Chris Coghlan had two hits and drove in a run and Emilio Benifacio, Hanley Ramirez, and Gary Dobbs each had a hit, as Florida was able to convert five hits into two runs, all they need to get the win. Josh Johnson allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven over seven innings of work to not factor in the decision.  Mike Dunn came on in relief to get the win before Leo Nunez pitched the ninth to get his 12th save. On Wednesday Florida starts Ricky Nolasco who has yet to take a loss this year. For the season Nolasco has allowed 44 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 38 in 47.1 innings of work.

The Philadelphia Phillies lead in the National League East over the Marlins narrowed to two games on Tuesday as the Phillies lost the game late. Ryan Howard homered to account for all of the Phillies scoring while Raul Ibanez had two hits and Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, and Ben Francisco all had hits. Roy Halladay pitched all eight innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out nine to take his second loss of the season. On Wednesday Philadelphia looks to rebound as they start Cliff Lee who hasn’t won since April 14th. For the season Lee has allowed 47 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 60 in 46.1 innings of work.

Florida is 2-4 in their last six against the NL East, 20-8 in their last 28 games against a left handed starter, and 5-1 in Nolasco’s last six starts. Philadelphia is 43-17 in their last 60 against the NL East, 35-18 in their last 53 road games, and 7-1 in Lee’s last eight starts against a team with a winning record. Philadelphia is 20-7 in their last 27 games in Florida.

This should be another good one but Lee has struggled while Nolasco keeps on winning. Getting Florida as an underdog here is the play.  Take Florida at plus 100.
