Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees

The New York Yankees look to avoid the home sweep at the hands of the visiting Boston Red Sox.  The Red Sox are -130 favorites over the Yankees with an over/under total set at 8.5 runs.

The New York Yankees dropped their second in a row to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday and row and missed out on a chance to gain ground against the division leading Rays. Curtis Granderson had two hits while Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira were two of the Yankees hitters that had hits though they were unable to score. C.C. Sabathia allowed seven hits and six earned runs while striking out six over 6.2 innings of work to take his third loss of the year. For Sunday’s game New York starts Freddy Garcia who picked up a win in his last outing. For the season Garcia has allowed 28 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 26 in 31 innings of work.

The Boston Red Sox are still looking to get back to .500 for the season and with a win on Sunday they will do just that. On Saturday Adrian Gonzalez homered while Dustin Pedroia had three hits and Jacoby Ellsbury had two hits to pace the offense. Josh Beckett had another huge outing as he allowed four hits and struck out nine in six scoreless innings to get his third win of the year. For Sunday Night’s game Boston starts Jon Lester who hasn’t lost in over a month. For the season Lester has allowed 43 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 51 in 51.2 innings of work.

New York is 2-5 in their last seven games following a loss, 0-5 in their last five against a team with a losing record, and 39-13 after losing the first two games of a series. Boston is 7-0 in their last seven road games against a team with a winning record, 6-1 in game three of a series, and 4-1 in Lester’s last five starts. Boston is 5-1 in their last six meetings in New York.

Most points here lean towards the Red Sox but with all of the intangibles on New York’s side it’s tough not to take the Yankees as a dog.  Ill take a shot with the Yankees at plus 110.
