Boston Red Sox vs. Minnesota Twins
The Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins meet for game four of their extended weekend series at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are -205 favorites over the Twins with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Boston Red Sox are trying to get back into the American League East race and while they are doing it being just four games back, they are two games under .500. On Sunday the Red Sox battled back after being down early as Carl Crawford homered, Adrian Gonzalez and Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits each and David Ortiz and Kevin Youklis each had two hits to pace the offense. Daisuke Matsuzaka overcame a sluggish start as he allowed five hits and four runs over six innings to get his third win of the season. For Monday’s finale Boston starts Josh Beckett who hasn’t had a decision in his last three starts. For the season Beckett has allowed 21 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 35 in 38.1 innings of work.
The Minnesota Twins don’t look much like the team that won the American League Central a year ago, as they are 10 games out in the division race. On Sunday Danny Valencia homered and had two hits, Jason Kubel had three hits, but Justin Morneau continued his struggles striking out three times. Carl Pavano couldn’t hold down the fort on the mound as he allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs in five innings of work to take his fourth loss of the season. For the series finale Minnesota starts Nick Blackburn who won last time out to break a personal four game losing streak. For the season Blackburn has allowed 41 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out just 15 in 34.2 innings of work.
Boston is 2-7 in their last nine against the AL Central, 7-2 in their last nine Monday games, and 19-9 in Beckett’s last 28 home starts. Minnesota is 6-1 in their last seven game four of a series, 9-20 in their last 29 road games, and 1-5 in Blackburn’s last six starts against the AL East. Minnesota is 1-9 in their last 10 games in Boston.
This game should be an easy win for the Boston Red Sox. I will take them minus the 205.
