Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees

Second place hosts first place in the American League East as the Toronto Blue Jays host the New York Yankees.  The New York Yankees are -105 favorites over the Blue Jays with an over/under run total set at 8.5 runs.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in second place in the American League East but they trail the first place Yankees by three games, a deficit they can cut into in a big way in this series with a few wins. The Blue Jays have lost three in a row, are 3-7 in their last 10, and have scored and allowed the same number of runs this season, 71. As a team Toronto is hitting .252 with Yunel Escobar at .333, Jose Bautista at .306, and the drop off to Aaron Hill at .233. As a staff the Blue Jays pitchers have an ERA of 3.50 with the starters at 3.72 and the bullpen at 3.10. For game one against New York Toronto starts Kyle Drabek who has been tough on the mound so far. For the season Drabek has allowed 13 hits and four earned runs while striking out 17 in 18.2 innings of work.

The New York Yankees are alone in first place in the AL East, a position they have grown accustomed to over the years. The Yankees have won two in a row and six of their last 10 and they have outscored their opponents 77-68. As a team New York is hitting .253 with Alex Rodriguez hitting .385, Robinson Cano hitting .310, and Russell Martin is hitting .289. The Yankees pitching staff checks in with a 4.57 ERA with the starters at 5.40 and the bullpen at 3.42. On Tuesday New York starts A.J. Burnett who looks to be better than he has been in some time. For the season Burnett has allowed 17 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 16 in 17.1 innings of work.

Toronto is 4-0 in their last four home games following a road trip of seven or more days, 10-3 in their last 13 home games, and 1-6 in their last seven games against a right handed starter. New York is 4-1 in their last five overall, 5-2 in their last seven game one of a series, and 2-11 in Burnetts last 13 starts against the AL East. New York is 3-7 in their last 10 games in Toronto.

While Im not convinced as of yet that the Yankees win the series, I think they get off on the right foot here and get the win.  Ill take the Yankees minus the 105.
