Texas Rangers vs. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are -140 favorites at home this afternoon over the Texas Rangers. The over/under run total is set for 10 runs.
The Yankees dropped the series opener at home against a very hot Texas Rangers team on Friday. New York allowed just four hits, but it wasnt enough as the Rangers won 5-3. The Yankees now are 7-5, which is first place in the AL East. Offensively in the game the Yankees grounded into six double plays, which is a franchise record. New Yankee, Freddy Garcia, will look for his first win with the team as he starts today. Garcia was only able to pitch one inning in his first start because of a delay, but he gave up one run and struck out one. Today will basically be his first start of the season because of it. The Yankees are hitting .253 as a team and they have scored 63 runs. Jorge Posada has just six hits on the season, but five of them have been home runs to lead the team. Mark Teixeira is hitting just .205, but he has four homers and a team high 11 RBI. Alex Rodriguez is hitting .405 with four homers and nine RBI, while Derek Jeter also had nine RBI for NY.
For the third straight time, the Texas Rangers won when starting pitcher, Matt Harrison, was on the mound. Harrison allowed one earned run in eight innings as he moved to 3-0 on the season. He also has a 1.23 ERA and 14 strikeouts. The win moved Texas to 10-3 overall and two games ahead of the Angels in the AL West. Derek Holland will also attempt to move to 3-0 today as he gets the start. Through two starts, Holland is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 11 strikeouts. Despite having just four hits on Friday, the Rangers are hitting .269 as a team and they are seventh in the league with 66 runs. Nelson Cruz is hitting .302 and he leads Texas with five homers and 12 RBI. Ian Kinsler has four homers and eight RBI while Adrian Beltre has three homers and nine RBI. Michael Young has 18 hits to lead the team with a .346 average.
Hitting was at a minimum last night, but there was still a combined eight runs scored with a 5-3 final. Today I would consider the pitching matchup a downgrade from last nights talent wise. Derek Holland for Texas has a lot of talent, but against the Yankees he is prone to blowing up. Freddy Garcia, on the other hand, I have never grown fond of over the years. I dont think he is that good and I think the Rangers very good lineup will expose him. Look for around 12 runs combined in this one so Id recommend a bet on the Over.
