San Francisco Giants vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

After playing 10 innings on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants meet for game two of their series in Pittsburgh.  The Giants are -135 favorites over he Pirates with an over/under set ay 8.5 runs in today’s game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates looked to be in charge on Tuesday night but they blew the lead late and then lost the game outright in extra innings. Garrett Jones homered, Lyle Overbay drove in a run, and Matt Diaz scored but it wasn’t enough for the Pirates to close the deal. Carl Morton pitched well enough to win as he allowed four hits and a run while striking out six over six innings of work to not figure in the decision but Evan Meek blew the lead and Joel Hanrahan took the loss after allowing a hit and a run in the 10th. For Wednesday’s rematch Pittsburgh starts James McDonald who hasn’t won yet this year. For the season McDonald has allowed 25 hits and 21 earned runs while striking out 12 in 18.2 innings of work.

The San Francisco Giants hung around on Tuesday night and were able to turn a close game into a win. Aaron Rowand, Freddy Sanchez, and Pablo Sandoval all had two hits and Darren Ford scored on a fielder’s choice to score the winning run. Matt Cain allowed four hits and two runs while striking out six over six innings to not figure in the decision as Sergio Romo got the win and Brian Wilson picked up his sixth save. On Wednesday Madison Bumgarner gets the start as he looks for his first win. For the season Bumgarner has allowed 25 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out just nine in 17.1 innings of work.

Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last five games against a left handed starter, 2-6 in their last eight home games, and 0-6 in McDonald’s last six starts. San Francisco is 5-1 in their last six game two of a series, 6-2 in their last eight road games, and 0-4 in Bumgarner’s last four starts. San Francisco is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings of these two.

Neither of these pitchers has been able to get anyone out this year so look for a ton of runs.  This game should go well above the 8.5 run total.
