San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The San Diego Padres look to avoid getting swept at home as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The San Diego Padres are -130 home favorites over the Los Angeles Dodgers with the over/under run total is set at 7 runs.
San Diego seems to have the same issues that they had a year ago, they have very few players in their lineup who can hit consistently. On Saturday Brad Hawpe and Chase Headley had two hits each but no one was able to score as Will Venerable struck out twice. Dustin Moseley allowed eight hits and three runs in six innings of work to take his second loss of the season in as many outings. On Sunday San Diego looks to salvage a win from the series as they send Aaron Harang to the mound. Harang won his last start when he allowed six hits while striking out six against the Giants.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won two in a row and find themselves a half game behind the Colorado Rockies in the West. On Saturday Andre Ethier hit his first home run of the year and had three hits while Matt Kemp and Jamey Carroll also had three hits and Tony Gwynn added two more hits. Hiroki Kuroda allowed six hits in eight and two-thirds innings and Jonathan Broxton picked up his fifth save of the year. On Sunday the Dodgers start John Ely who makes his first appearance of 2011. Last season Ely looked good at the beginning but ended up 4-10 with a 5.49 ERA.
San Diego is 1-4 in their last five games against the Dodgers, 1-4 in their last five against the NL West, and 10-3 in their last 13 after losing the first two games of a series. Los Angeles is 4-1 in their last five against a team with a losing record, 10-4 in their last 14 overall, and 1-5 in Ely’s last six starts. San Diego has won five of the last seven meetings at home against LA.
The Padres just don’t have a lot as far as bats and unlike last year, this year it is costing them. I think we don’t see much offense from either team here. I am going with the under 7 runs as my wager for this ballgame.
