San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies
The Memphis Grizzlies look to close out the series on their home court as they host the San Antonio Spurs in Game Six. The Grizzlies are 3-point favorites over the Spurs with an over/under point total set at 189.
The Spurs lived to see another day in thrilling fashion in Game Five as Gary Neal hit a three pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Tony Parker proceeded to take over in the added frame and Manu Ginobli’s late foul shots boosted the Spurs to a cover of the 6-point number as well as the final margin landed at 7. The Spurs looked to be in control in the early going but quickly wasted their early lead in the third quarter as the visitors reclaimed the lead. The key for San Antonio in this game will likely be the play of Richard Jefferson, who is averaging just a shade over three points per game over the last three of this series. The Spurs’ big three should offer pretty reliable contributions here but a strong game out of Jefferson would likely tip the scale in the visitors’ favor. Defending Zach Randolph is also paramount but at this stage it’s probably an area of deficiency this team is unable to correct as they lack the physical paint presence to stop him.
The Memphis Grizzlies continue to be a matchup nightmare as their gritty brand of basketball continues to produce results in this series. The Grizzlies have a rowdy fan base to match their intensity on the court and it served to elevate their performance in the last game in Memphis as they issued a 104-86 beatdown in Game Four. Tony Allen and Shane Battier continue to anchor a pestering defensive presence as Zach Randolph and Mike Conley continue to generate offense and Marc Gasol continues crashing the boards like Pau. The Grizzlies have been swept in the opening round of their last three trips to the post-season and will look to change that trend with a bang as upsetting the one seed as an eight will put them in elite company.
This line opened at Memphis -1 but shot up to 3 pretty quickly. The Grizzlies have been the more complete team this series and play by far the better defense, but I still think they’ll find it difficult to close out a perennial contender. This series is just too close for comfort, which leaves me leaning to the points, which could even factor in if the Grizzlies win but I’ll take the Spurs plus the three points.
