Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals
The Philadelphia Phillies are -180 favorites over the Washington Nationals today. The over/under run total is set at 7.5 runs. Cliff Lee will attempt to make up for a bad start tonight as the Phillies look to win the final game of their series in Washington against the Nationals. Washington won 7-4 on Tuesday and the Phillies evened the series with a 3-2 win last night. Roy Halladay allowed two runs and struck out nine as he tossed a complete game to get the win despite Philadelphia only getting six hits offensively.
Washington got a solid start from John Lannon on the mound Wednesday, but it wasnt enough as the Nationals lost 3-2. Lannon allowed two earned runs in six innings to get the loss for Washington who fell to 5-6 and take over third place in the NL East. Tonight Jordan Zimmerman will start for the Nationals as he looks for his second win of the season. In his last start, Zimmerman allowed two runs in 5.1 innings as he beat the Mets. Offensively the Nationals are struggling, hitting just .222 as a team and it doesnt help that they have Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day DL. Danny Espinosa is hitting .276 with a team best seven RBI. Jayson Werth has struggled hitting just .238, but he does have a team high with two home runs. Wilmos Ramos has hit well when given the chance to play, as he is 9 for 20 and hitting .450 for the Nationals.
Philadelphia made up for their ugly performance on Tuesday with a 3-2 win on Wednesday over Washington. Roy Halladay pitched a complete game and picked up his second win of the season. The Phillies are now 8-3 and now games ahead of the Marlins in the NL East. The Phillies other ace, Cliff Lee, will start tonight. Lee hasnt pitched very well as of late as he allowed six runs in 3.1 innings of a loss to the Braves. That puts Lee at 1-1 with a 7.84 ERA on the season. Offensively Philadelphia is first in the MLB hitting .318 as a team with a third best 66 runs scored. Ryan Howard has been dominant, hitting .333 with three homers and 13 RBI. Placido Polanco is hitting .370 with then RBI, Shane Victorino is hitting .364 with eight RBI and Carlos Ruiz is hitting .333 with seven RBI for the Phillies. All of this has been done without star second baseman, Chase Utley as well.
The Phillies evened the series on the Wednesday and I fully believe they will leave Washington with a series win on Thursday. Cliff Lee normally doesnt struggle in back to back starts and I think the Nationals will be in trouble especially without Ryan Zimmerman. The Nationals will have a nice young pitcher on the mound with Jordan Zimmerman, but the Phillies lineup is clicking and that spells trouble for Zimmerman. Id say the odds are decent at -180 value wise because I am rather confident the Phillies will win this game with Lee.
