Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat
The Miami Heat is 11-point home favorites over the Philadelphia 76ers this afternoon in game 1 of the playoffs. The over/under total for the game is set at 190.
No team has been talked about more this season than the Heat and rightly so. Nine months ago the new g Three’ was conceived and straight away they were anointed title favorites. Fast forward nine months and here the Heat are, about to embark on their first title pursuit. The Heat failed to live up to their lofty regular season expectations, however the first season together was still a success and with a 16-3 recording heading into the playoffs, the Heat are primed and ready to go.
Despite their poor start to the season, the 76ers managed to turn things around enough to finish with a 41-41 record, which was good for sixth in the Easter Conference. Unlike the Heat, the 76ers have scoring from several different options as they have six players all averaging between 10-15 points per game. The 76ers didn’t wow anyone with their amazing offensive abilities during the regular season, instead they played solid defense and simply didn’t turn the ball over, finishing with the second lowest turn over rate of any team in the league.
The Heat swept the regular season series with the 76ers 3-0, while also covering in two of those meetings. Each of the three meetings finished in exactly the same way, with the Heat coming away winners by 9-12 point on all three occasions. The Heat are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall, but just 4-10 against the spread in their last 14 games as a home favorite of 5-10 points. The 76ers on the other hand are 0-6 against the spread in their last six games overall and 4-11 against the spread in their last 15 playoff games as an underdog of 5-10 points. Head to head, the home team is 17-7 against the spread in the last 24 meetings while the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Miami, although the under is 11-6 in the last 17 meetings.
Figuring the Heat beat the 76ers in all three regular season meetings by between 9-12 points, this line for game one looks just about right. I don’t think there’s any doubt the Heat gets the win in game one, but just by how much. In any case, this is still the first playoff game for the g three of Miami and I don’t think they win this one by more than double digits.
