Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are 5-point favorites over the Oklahoma City Thunder this evening. The over/under total for the game is set at 191. The Los Angeles Lakers look to avoid their first five game losing streak in over four years when they host Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
At the beginning of April, the Lakers were in contention for the number one seed in the West, however a four game losing streak has them in danger of finishing out of the top three all together. There is some good news for the Lakers however, as they own the tiebreaker over the Thunder and Mavericks, the two teams chasing them for the second spot, and a win tonight would secure them a top two finish. Over their last four games, the Lakers are really struggling from beyond the arc and have committed a whopping 73 turnovers during their losing streak.
After clinching the Northwest Division title, the Thunder defeated likely first round opponent the Denver Nuggets on Friday night for their third straight victory and 14th in their last 17 overall. The Thunder held the leagues leading offense to fewer than 40% shooting while forcing 19 turnovers.
The Lakers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games vs. a team with a winning % above .600, but just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games as a home favorite. The Thunder on the other hand is 6-2 against the spread in their last eight road games and 20-7 against the spread in their last 27 games as an underdog of 5.0-10.5. Head to head, the Lakers are 5-0 against the spread in the last four meetings while the favorite is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings. The under is 5-2 in the last seven in Los Angeles.
On current form, the Thunder would be the clear pick here. However, the Lakers are defending champs for a reason and they have defeated and covered in all three meetings against the Thunder this season. With a win tonight, the Lakers would secure the second spot in the West and that’s exactly what I think they will do. The Lakers bounce back tonight and ultimately get the cover.
