Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets return home to face Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series.  The Nuggets are 6-point favorites over the Thunder with an over/under total set at 205 points.

After their 106-89 win in Game two on Wednesday night, the Thunder built a commanding 2-0 lead over the Nuggets in the best of seven series. After Oklahoma’s star duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook scored a combined 72 points to lead the Thunder past the Nuggets in a close game one victory, the Thunder got plenty of help in their game two demolition.

Durant and Westbrook still top scored for the Thunder with 23 and 21 points respectively, but this time they got help from everyone else as they contributed to an early stretch that saw the Thunder go up by as many as 26 points in the second quarter. Ty Lawson scored 20 points to lead Denver, which could only get as close as 10 in the fourth quarter before the Thunder put the game away.

The Nuggets are 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 home games and 8-1 against the spread in their last 9 games following a loss. The Thunder on the other hand are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 road games and 21-7 against the spread in their last 28 games as an underdog of 5-10 points. Head to head, the Thunder are 11-4 against the spread in the last 15 meetings while the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings, however the over is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings in Denver.

With their wins in games one and two, the Thunder clearly have the edge over the Nuggets as they have won the last four meetings between the two and five of the last six. Having said that, the Nuggets can’t be counted out just yet and they return home to the Pepsi Center, a place where they have been so dominate this season. I expect the Nuggets to get the win here, but no way am I giving this many points to a Thunder team simply on a roll at the moment.  Take the Thunder plus the 6-points here.
