Oakland Athletics vs. Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers are -130 favorites over the Oakland Athletics this afternoon. The over/under run total is set at 6.5 runs. The 7-8 Detroit Tigers must feel at home when in the Bay Area. The Tigers won again today to win their second game this week against the 6-8 Oakland Athletics on the road this season to go along with five straight dating back to last season.
A pitching fest was ruined in the 10th inning by Detroit’s bats and then Oakland tried to make a carbon copy of the Tigers’ great inning during the bottom-half of the frame. The Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera tattooed the baseball in the bottom of the ninth to set up a ridiculous 10th inning. Brennan Boesch doubled in two runs, Victor Martinez singled in one and Alex Avila singled in another as Detroit ended up getting seven runs total during the 10th which also saw the A’s get bases loaded with no outs. David DeJesus scored in the third inning to make a scoreless game 1-0 until Cabrera led off the ninth with a solo home run to silence the Oakland crowd. Coco Crisp grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring one run before DeJesus struck again driving in two runs to cut the lead down to 8-4, but the game ended on the next at-bat.
Now it’s Justin Verlander’s and Dallas Braden’s turn to go to the mound facing rejuvenated batting lineups that scored 10 runs in the final inning after hitting just a combined 14-of-58 from the plate for one RBI during the first eight innings.
Pitching prevails again I think. Now it’s just a matter of whether this game goes to extra innings again? Throwing caution against the wind I’ll go with Oakland as a +110 underdog.
