New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
The New York Yankees are -125 favorites over the Boston Red Sox this Sunday evening. The over/under total for runs is set at 9.5. The Yankees are pitching CC Sabathia while the Red Sox are pitching Josh Beckett.
A day after the 1-7 Boston Red Sox won a game the 5-3 New York Yankees reminded them of the aches and pains of losing. For two games hitting has supplanted pitching at Fenway Park. On Saturday New York pitched superbly when it had to and won 9-4 despite the Red Sox reaching base nearly as many times as the Yankees. In hits alone, New York won the battle 13-10. Dustin Pedroia and Jed Lowrie each hit 3-of-4 from the batting circle to carry Boston’s bats. Only four other Red Sox hitters even got a hit as the Yankees had seven of nine players to swing the bats get on board with a hit. Front and center of the New York’s success in the batter’s box was Robinson Cano and Eric Chavez each collecting three hits. Cano and Chavez received plenty of help too with Russell Martin homering twice to left field for four RBIs. Altogether Curtis Granderson and Cano also hit the long ball for four Yankee home runs. Boston didn’t have any homers a day after slugging one out in the first inning off of the bat of Pedroia. Alex Rodriguez had the only other home run of the series.
With power virtually in every spot of the lineup, we could have our third day of double-digit runs scored. New York’s CC Sabathia and Boston’s Josh Beckett have the arduous task of trying to tame the bats from the outset. abathia was his usual self in his first start, but the Yankees ended up losing to the 3-4 Minnesota Twins anyway while Beckett was knocked around in five innings of work against the 5-2 Cleveland Indians. Boston and New York’s batting lineups are as good as any in Major League Baseball. I think we see a lot of runs with the two biggest and baddest lineups taking center stage on Sunday Night Baseball. Im taking the over 9.5 runs in this game.
