New Orleans Hornets vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The New Orleans Hornets look to even the series when they face the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 at home. The Los Angeles Lakers are 6-point favorites over the New Orleans Hornets. The over/under total for the game is set at 183 points.
After getting upset in Game 1, the defending champion Lakers have won back to back games to take control of the best of seven series 2-1. Kobe Bryant top scored with 30 points, while Pau Gasol added 17 points and 10 rebounds, including a clutch three pointer in the final quarter to steer the Lakers to the win. Gasol, who made only 4 of 19 shots during the first two games of the series and took some blame for the Lakers surprising game one loss, easily had his best game of the series, scoring 13 points in a dominate second half. Chris Paul had 22 points and eight assist for the Hornets, who managed to stay within single digits for long stretches of the game but never truly threatened to take the lead in the second half.
The Hornets are just 1-9 against the spread in their last 10 playoff games as an underdog of 5-10 points and 2-7 against the spread in their last nine conference quarterfinals games. The Lakers on the other hand are 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 road games and 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games as road favorites. Head to head, the Lakers are 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings in New Orleans while the road team is 16-5 against the spread in the last 21 meetings. The underdog is 16-5 against the spread in the last 21 meetings while the over 7-2 in the last nine meetings and 4-0 in the last four meetings in New Orleans.
Give credit to the Hornets for taking Game 1 in LA, however it’s pretty clear over the last two games they don’t have what it takes to keep up with the defending champs in a seven game series. The Lakers have plenty of motivation for tonight’s game, because a win tonight would mean they could wrap up the series in Game 5 in LA. A loss on the other hand would mean another trip to New Orleans for a Game 6. Give me the Lakers in this one minus the 6 points.
