Memphis Grizzlies vs. Portland Trailblazers

The Portland Trailblazers are 6-point favorites over the Memphis Grizzlies with the over/under total set at 187 points. The Portland Trail Blazers will try to fend off the Memphis Grizzlies tonight as they look to lock up sixth place in the Western Conference.

Memphis has won six out of its last seven games to pull within one game of Portland for the sixth seed. How crucial is that sixth seed? That is yet to be determined, as the two through four seeds will not be decided until the final game. If the Lakers win their last two, they will vault into second, making sixth place a coveted spot in the standings. Regardless of how they finish in the standings, the Grizzlies has been very impressive this year under Lionel Hollins. They began the year just 14-19, and have gone 32-15 since then. By the way, Rudy Gay has missed the last 26 games and is out for the season. Memphis has made up for it by becoming a ball-hawking, swarming defense.

If any team knows how to persevere through injuries to star players, it is the Portland Trail Blazers. Greg Oden sustained another season-ending injury early on, and Brandon Roy is now coming off the bench because injuries have reduced him to a shell of his former self. How did they deal with it? LaMarcus Aldridge evolved into an All-Star player, Wes Matthews earned his money as Roy’s fill-in, and the front office acquired Gerald Wallace. The Blazers have turned it up lately, taking out Dallas, Oklahoma City, and the Lakers last week.

The head-to-head games from earlier in the season do not hold much meaning considering it was before the Wallace trade and the Gay injury. This game should be really fun to watch on both ends of the floor, with good athletes on both sides. I think Portland has a slight edge playing at home, but I still think this game will come down to the wire. That is why I am happy to take Memphis and the points here. The six points should be more than enough to win this wager.
