Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Florida Marlins

The Florida Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers meet for game three of their series in South Florida.  The Marlins are -120 favorites with an over/under total set at 7.5 runs.

The Florida Marlins don’t look like they are ready to go anywhere as they sit near the top of the National League East. On Tuesday the Marlins got a home run from Gaby Sanchez and Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton each had two hits to pace the offense. Chris Volstad allowed seven hits and two earned runs while striking out five over seven innings of work to get his second win of the year and Leo Nunez struck out two in the ninth to pick up his seventh save of the year. For Wednesday’s game Florida starts Anibal Sanchez who came within one hit allowed of his second career no hitter in his last outing. For the season Sanchez has allowed 27 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 26 in 25.1 innings of work.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were hoping to avoid the road woes that plagued them a year ago but thus far this road trip they have dropped two in a row. On Tuesday James Loney had four hits and Andre Ethier and Rod barajas each drove in runs but it wasn’t enough to take down the Marlins. Clayton Kershaw allowed six hits and four runs while striking out five in 5.1 innings of work to take his third loss of the year. For Wednesday afternoon’s game Los Angeles starts Chad Billingsley who picked up his second win of the year in his last start. For the season Billingsley has allowed 28 hits and 13 earned runs while striking 27 in 28.1 innings of work.

Florida is 7-1 in their last eight games, 13-3 in their last 16 against a right handed starter, and 5-1 in Sanchez’s last six home starts. Los Angeles is 6-3 in their last nine against a team with a winning record, 6-14 in their last 20 road games against a right handed starter, and 1-9 in Billingsley’s last 10 road starts. Los Angeles is 1-6 in the last seven meetings of these two.

Florida is still being underestimated so we’ll continue to get nice prices on them.  The Marlins are a very solid play this afternoon.
