Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers go for the weekend series weep as they host the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. The Rangers are -200 favorites over the Royals with an over/under run total set at 9.
The Texas Rangers have regained the lead in the American League West and they look to make it three wins in a row on Sunday. On Saturday the Rangers had just four hits but they made them count as Michael Young had two hits and scored a run and Nelson Cruz and Matt Moreland each had a hit and an RBI to provide the bulk of the offense. Alexi Ogando allowed five hits and a run and struck out five over six innings to get his third win and Darren Oliver pitched a perfect ninth inning to get his first save of the year. On Sunday Texas starts C.J. Wilson who has allowed 28 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 21 in 26.1 innings of work.
The Kansas City Royals are in second place in the American League Central and with Cleveland losing the Royals didn’t lose any ground as they took their fifth loss in their last 10 games. Melky Cabrera had three hits, Alex Gordon had a hit, and Kila Ka’aihue hit a solo homer, as the Royals just couldn’t put enough on the board to get the win. KC starter Kyle Davies allowed four hits and three runs in six innings to take his second loss of the year. For Sunday’s game Kansas City starts Bruce Chen who has been impressive this year. For the season Chen has allowed 23 hits and nine runs while striking out 17 in 20 innings of work.
Texas is 4-1 in there last five home games against a left handed starter, 9-2 in their last 11 home games, and 28-11 in Wilson’s last 39 starts. Kansas City is 6-3 in their last nine against the AL West, 17-37 in their last 54 road games, and 5-0 in Chen’s last five starts. Kansas City has lost seven in a row at Texas.
We have two solid starters on the mound in this one and just like we didn’t see a lot as far as offense on Saturday, I don’t think we see much more on Sunday. Take under 9 runs in this ballgame.
