Kansas City Royals vs. Seattle Mariners

The Kansas City Royals are -135 favorites over the Seattle Mariners this afternoon.  The over/under total for the game is set at 8 runs.

The Royals stayed hot with yet another win to make it four in a row as they beat the Mariners yesterday.  Not only did they win, but also they beat one of the best pitchers in the majors in Felix Hernandez.  Kansas Citys pitching staff combined to shut out the Mariners offense in the 7-0 win as the Royals moved to 10-4 in the AL Central and tied with the Indians.  Jeff Francis will start the final game of the series today as he searches for his first win with the Royals.  KC has lost two of Francis three starts, but in 20.2 innings he has an impressive 2.61 ERA.  The offense has been a surprise thus far as they are fourth in both runs with 73 and a .281 average as a team in the league.  Alex Gordon is hitting .373 with 11 RBI, Billy Butler is hitting .373 with nine RBI and Jeff Francoeur is hitting .327 with 11 RBI.  Mike Aviles has 10 RBI and Melky Cabrera has seven RBI for KC.

As expected, the Mariners are struggling to open up the season with just a 4-11 record.  Seattle comes in off four straight losses after they were shut out yesterday 7-0.  Felix Hernandez fell to 1-2 this year with the loss.  Today the Mariners will rely on a young start in Michael Pineda.  Pineda allowed one run in 7.1 innings in a win over the Jays in his last start and he has a 2.70 ERA through two games.  Offensively the Mariners are hitting a pathetic .214 as a team and they have scored 49 runs.  Justin Smoak, Ichiro Suzuki and Michael Saunders all have team highs with six RBI.  Ryan Langerhans is hitting .160, but he has shown signs of power with a team best three home runs.  Not one person on the team is hitting above .300 through 15 games.

Jeff Francis isnt a bad pitcher by any means and he is probably the best the Royals have to offer right now when healthy.  Luckily for Francis he gets to face the Mariners who cant hit very well at all.  On the other side with Michael Pineda on the mound for Seattle it wont be easy for the Royals hitters as well.  Kansas City is on a roll with their bats, but facing Pineda for the first time will bother them.  Pineda is the real deal and the Mariners offense is not, therefore I like the under in this game.
