Dallas Mavericks vs. Portland Trailblazers

The Portland Trail Blazers will look to the Rose Garden faithful as they host the Dallas Mavericks in Game Three of the opening round.  The Trail Blazers are 6-point favorites over the Mavericks with an over/under total set at 186.

The Dallas Mavericks took the first two games in Dallas holding the Blazers to an average of 85 PPG.  Dirk Nowitzki scored over 25 points in each game but Dallas received different contributions in each win from behind the three-point line.  In game one it was Jason Kidd making a statement at age 38 and in game two it was Peja Stojakovic whose minutes were sparse this regular season due to injury.   The change of venue could be concerning for the Mavericks after losing both meetings at Portland in the regular season.  Neither victory was resounding for the Blazers though, with wins by 8 and 3.

The Portland Trail Blazers will look to the crowd to elevate them at the notoriously hostile Rose Garden.  The home court advantage should help bench players Brandon Roy and Rudy Fernandez get untracked as neither player was productive in the first two games.  Roys mobility has the tendency to transform on his home court and Rudy Fernandez only seems to hit shots in Portland, so its possible we see a different team take the court.  LaMarcus Aldridge should continue to do work as he has all season and the Portland defense should have modest success with chanting and crowd energy beside them.

I do think the Blazers will turn things around at home, but six points is a stretch having seen these teams matchup already.  I expect this line to drop to 4, and it may be worth a middle attempt if thats the case.  For now buy the points with the team who has won the first two games and played the better defense in the process.  Take the Dallas Mavericks plus the 6 points in this game.
