Colorado Rockies vs. Florida Marlins

Two of the top teams in the national League face off as the Florida Marlins host the Colorado Rockies in game one of their series in Florida.  The Rockies is-125 favorites over the Marlins with an over/under total set at 8.5 runs for this game.

The Florida Marlins head into this weekend as winners of three in a row and they are neck and neck with the Phillies for first place in the National League East. The Marlins have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games, 6-3 at home this year, and have outscored their opponents 75-65. As a team Florida is hitting .265 with Gaby Sanchez hitting .328, an injured Logan Morrison hitting .327, and Chris Coughlin hitting .279. As a staff the Marlins have an ERA of 3.04 with the starters at 3.76 and the bullpen at 1.74. For game one against Colorado Florida starts Anibal Sanchez who has struggled this year. For the season Sanchez has allowed 26 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 17 in 16.1 innings of work.

The Colorado Rockies are all alone in first place in the NL West as they head to Florida for the weekend. The Rockies have won seven of their last 10, have gone 7-1 on the road, and have outscored their opponents 99-75. As a team Colorado is hitting .257 with Troy Tulowitzki hitting .343, Jonathan Herrera hitting .341, and Seth Smith hitting .333. As a team the Rockies have an ERA of 3.74 as the starters are at 4.29 and the bullpen is at 2.83. For game one against the Marlins Colorado starts Jhoulys Chacin who has won all three games he’s started this year. Thus far this season Chacin has allowed 18 hits and four earned runs while striking out 14 in 22 innings of work.

Florida is 5-1 in their last six home games, 5-1 in their last six game one of a series, and 2-5 in Sanchez’s last seven starts. Colorado is 6-0 in their last six road games, 4-1 in their last five game one of a series, and 6-1 in Chacin’s last eight starts. Colorado is 2-5 in their last seven games in Florida.

This is a tough road trip for a team like Colorado this early in the year as they go across country from cold to hot. I think this one is tight but the Marlins have a real home field advantage here not because of any fans that may be there but the climate.  Ill take the Marlins +105 here.
