Cleveland Indians vs. Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals took an early lead on the Cleveland Indians onÂ WednesdayÂ but it all cameÂ unraveledÂ in the sixth inning and they were never able to catch the tribe again. Jeff Francouer had two hits, Melky Cabrera scored twice, and Kila Ka’aihue added two more hits but the Royals were unable to generate enough offense to get the win. Luke Hochevar went five scoreless but int he sixth he allowed four of the six total runs he allowed and on the night he gave up five hits while striking out four over six innings of work to take the loss. On Thursday Kansas City looks to bounce back as they send Sean O’Sullivan to the mound for the start. For the season O’Sullivan has allowed 12 hits and five earned runs while striking out five in nine innings of work.
The Cleveland Indians will leave Kansas City in first place in the AL Central regardless of Thursday’s result though they have a chance to extend their lead. On Wednesday Asdrubal Cabrera, Travis Hafner, and Jack Hannahan all had two hits as the Tribe put together and 11 hit seven run performance. On the mound Justin Masterson was sharp once again as he allowed six hits and two earned runs walking five and striking out three in six innings of work to pick up his fourth win and Chris Perez picked up his sixth save of the young season. For Thursday’s game Cleveland starts Josh Tomlin who has won all three of his outings this year. For the season Tomlin has allowed 12 hits and six runs while striking out 11 in 19.2 innings of work.
Kansas City is 5-1 as a home underdog, 8-4 in their last 12 home games, and 2-5 in O’Sullivan’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record. Cleveland is 5-1 in their last six games as a road favorite, 20-7 in their last 27 games overall, and 5-0 in Tomlin’s last five starts. Cleveland has won five of the last six meetings of these two.
