Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles and the Boston Red Sox conclude their series on Thursday at Camden yards. The Red Sox are -200 favorites over the Orioles with an over/under run total set at 8.5.
The Baltimore Orioles may not be ready to contend for the World Series this season but they are a much-improved team who can beat anyone on nay given night. On Wednesday Luke Scott and Adam Jones homered as Derek Lee had three hits, Jones had two hits, and Vladimir Guerrero drove in the game winner in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jeremy Guthrie allowed seven hits and struck out six in six scoreless innings to not factor in the decision while Koji Uehara blew the lead but got his first win and Kevin Gregg got his fourth save of the year. For Thursday’s series finale Baltimore starts Bradley Bergesen for the fourth time this year. For the season Bergesen has allowed 19 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 11 in 16.2 innings of work while not getting his first win of the season as of yet.
The Boston Red Sox looked to be escaping their early season slump but after losing their second game in a row on Wednesday they find themselves back in the basement of the AL East standings. Kevin Youklis homered in the eight inning and had three RBI’s on the night while Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and Adrian Gonzalez and David Ortiz had two hits each as the eighth inning rally fell short. Josh Beckett allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four in six innings of work while Daniel Bard took his third loss for the year. For Thursday’s series finale Boston starts Jon Lester who is coming off of back-to-back monster performances. For the season Lester has allowed 26 hits and nine earned runs while striking out 30 in 31.1 innings of work.
Baltimore is 5-2 in their last seven game three of a series, 4-11 in their last 15 overall, and 0-5 in Bergesen’s last five starts. Boston is 6-2 in their last eight games as a favorite, 5-2 in their last seven games overall, and 7-3 in Lester’s last 10 road starts. Boston is 15-1 in their last 16 starts against Baltimore.
I don’t see much scoring happening in this one and this should be one of those quick games where we cash on an easy under. Take the under 8.5 runs.
