Atlanta Hawks vs. Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic look to even the series up when they host the Atlanta Hawks for game two. The Magic is listed as 9-point favorites and the over/under total is set for 183.
Despite a monster performance from Dwight Howard, the Hawks came away with a 103-93 victory in game one of the best of seven series. Howard finished game one with 46 points and 19 rebounds and became the first player since Hakeem Olajuwon in 1987 with a least 45 points and 15 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Hawks who have won four straight against the Magic. Joe Johnson led five Hawks players with 25 points, while Jamal Crawford added 23 of his own off the bench for a Hawks team looking for revenge after being swept by the Magic in last season’s playoffs. The Hawks did their damage in the second quarter, outscoring the Magic 38-29, and their lead got to as many as 18 in the second half, before running out 10 point winners.
The Magic are now just 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 home games and 1-8 against the spread in their last nine games as a home favorite. The Hawks on the other hand are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, but just 1-6 against the spread in their last seven playoff games as an underdog of 5-10 points. Head to head, the Hawks and underdog are 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings while the road team is 5-2 against the spread in the last seven meetings. The under is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings and 5-2 in the last seven in Orlando.
After embarrassing Atlanta in last season’s playoffs, the Hawks have now won four straight against the Magic, while also covering the last five. There’s no doubt the Magic will be looking to bounce back here and I would be very surprised if they lost both opening round games. However, if game one is anything to go by, the Hawks mean business and they will not lie down. The Hawks dominated game one after the first quarter and I simply don’t see how you can be giving them near on double digits in this one. Ill take the Atlanta Hawks plus the 9-points.
