Atlanta Braves vs. Florida Marlins
The Atlanta Braves are -135 favorites over the Florida Marlins this evening. The over/under total for the game is set at 7 runs. This is an early season divisional NL East game.
The Braves picked up a much-needed win on Tuesday over the Marlins 5-0 at home. Thanks to an outstanding performance on the mound from Tommy Hanson, who allowed no runs in seven innings, the Braves improved to 5-6. Jason Heyward and Brian McCann also homered in the win. Tim Hudson will start tonight for Atlanta as he looks for a 3-0 start. Hudson won both of his starts so far and in his last start he allowed two runs in 7.2 innings against the Phillies. The offense hasnt been very good for Atlanta thus far, hitting just .229 as a team. Jason Heyward is hitting .273 with three homers and six RBI. Brian McCann is hitting a team high .350 with six RBI while Chipper Jones is hitting .308 with a team high eight RBI.
Florida lost their second game in a row on Tuesday as Tommy Hanson and the Braves shut down their offense. The Marlins now in their last two games have scored just one total run. Chris Volstad didnt have the best of outings, allowing five runs in 4.2 innings of a loss. Josh Johnson will look to improve on that today against the Braves. Johnson is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA through two starts. Offensively the Marlins hit .266 and they have scored a 19th best 37 runs. Logan Morrison is hitting .324 with two homers and six RBI while Gaby Sanchez is also hitting .324 with four RBI. John Buck has a Grand Slam and seven RBI to lead Florida while Hanley Ramirez has suffered from a slow start hitting just .182 with two RBI.
We should see a pitchers duel tonight in Atlanta with Tim Hudson facing Floridas Josh Johnson. Johnson had a lot of success against the Braves last season, allowing three runs in 18 innings. Tim Hudson, on the other hand, had been pitching well against almost everyone dating back to 2010. Hudson already is 2-0 and off to a great start in 2011. Picking the winner of this game isnt easy, but I dont see a lot of runs being scored and therefore I like the under.
