UCLA Bruins vs. Washington Huskies
The Washington Huskies are 7-point home favorites over the UCLA Bruins this evening in Pac-10 play. The over/under total for the game is set at 150. These are two of the top teams in the Pac-10. If the regular season ended today, UCLA would be the second seed in the Pac-10 Tournament while Washington would be third. There are still two more games in the regular season to create momentum heading into March Madness.
UCLA is 21-8 overall and 14-15 against the spread. The Bruins are currently locked in a first-place tie in the Pac-10 with Arizona at 12-4. UCLA forced its way into a first-place with Arizona on Saturday when the Bruins beat them 71-49 as 3-point home favorites. The Bruins opened up a 10-point halftime advantage, 40-30, before dominating the second half with their defense, 31-19. Forward Reeves Nelson stepped up with 27 points and 16 rebounds, while Tyler Honeycutt provided 15 and 5 rebounds. Center Joshua Smith was the only other player to reach double digits in scoring with 17. The combined 120 points never seriously threatened the 141-point closing total, helping the der cash the second consecutive contest.
The Washington Huskies are 19-9 overall and have a record against the spread of 15-11. The Huskies suffered their second straight conference setback with Sundays loss to rival Washington State as a 12-point home favorite, 80-69. Washington scored just 17 points in the first half and trailed by seven, then erupted for 52 points after halftime while yielding 56. Guard Isaiah Thomas paced the offense with 21 points and five assists, while forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Justin Holiday had a solid effort with 11 points. The combined 149 points went der the 157-point closing total.
Washington has beaten UCLA the previous two meetings. They won their earlier season meeting on December 31st 74-63 as 4-point road favorites. The combined 137 points never seriously threatened the 151-point closing total. UCLA is 1-7 against the spread in the last eight games against Washington. I see this game being no different with Washington winning easily at home. The home-court advantage should take the Huskies to a double-figure win and a cover. Ill lay the 7-points with the Huskies tonight.
