St. Johns Red Storm vs. Seton Hall Pirates
The St. Johns Red Storm is 3-point road favorites against the Seton Hall Pirates tonight in Big East play. The over/under total for the game is 128. The St. Johns Red Storm look for their seventh consecutive win, both straight-up and against the spread.
St. Johns is 19-9 overall and 14-13 against the spread. They are ranked #15 in the country and are a lock to be playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002. A March Madness trip wasnt looking good after an 11-8 start. However, the Red Storm is 8-1 since, in their last nine games. St. Johns last played Saturday at Villanova at 7-point road underdogs and came away with an 81-68 victory. Guard Dwight Hardy had a career-high 34 points. It was St. Johns first win over a ranked opponent since 2002.  Hardy is one of four starting seniors. The top three reserves are also in their final year. Team confidence is at an all-time high.
Seton Hall is 11-17 on the year and 12-14 against the spread. In conference play the Pirates are only 5-11 overall and 8-8 against the spread. Team depth took a hit with when sophomore forward Ferrakohn Hall decided to transfer in December. Senior guards Keon Lawrence and Jamel Jackson were kicked off the squad on February 12 for violating team rules. Guard Jeremy Hazell leads the Pirates in scoring with 18.5 points per game, but is shooting just 40 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from three-point range. The Pirates are on a three-game losing streak and has just covered once in those three. They lost 60-48 at Notre Dame on Saturday as 10-point underdogs, shooting just 30.4 percent from the field. The 108 combined points scored went way der the 140-point total. The der is 6-1 in Seton Halls last seven games.
This is the first meeting between the teams this year. The home team is 6-1 against the spread in this match-up. Although, St. Johns is one of the hottest teams in college basketball, I am taking the Seton Hall Pirates plus the three points. Call it just a hunch, but I feel that St. Johns will take the Seton Hall Pirates lightly tonight looking forward to the Big East tournament next week. Im calling for an upset.
