San Diego St. Aztecs vs. Temple Owls
Both teams took care of business with wins and covers as first-round favorites. Now the San Diego St. Aztecs and the Temple Owls play to decide who heads to Anaheim next week as part of the West Region’s Sweet 16 field. The San Diego Aztecs are 6-point favorites over the Temple Owls with the over/under total set at 125.
If Temple is going to pull the outright upset, the Owls will become just the second team to take down San Diego St. this season. Both of the Aztecs’ losses came at the hands of Jimmer Fredette and the BYU Cougars during the regular season. The Aztecs got revenge with a 72-54 beat down of the Cougars in the Mountain West Tournament Championship Game. The Mountain West Conference title lifted San Diego St. to a 2-seed in the West Region.
San Diego St. is 33-2 overall and 21-12 against the spread. They took care of business in its Thursday opener with another 18-point triumph, knocking off Northern Colorado 68-50 as 14-point favorites. Kawhi Leonard posted his 23rd double-double of the season with a team-best 21 points along with 10 rebounds. San Diego St. let Northern Colorado hang around for the first 25 minutes or so of the game, thanks in large part to Devon Beitzel’s game-high 25. James Rahon helped the Aztecs kick it in gear with nine of his 12 points in the final 13 minutes. The der 130 won easily, it was the fourth der in San Diego St. last five games.
Temple is 26-7 overall and 18-15 against the spread. They had yo battle back from an early nine-point deficit to beat Penn St. on Juan Fernandez’s late jumper, 66-64. Fernandez scored the Owls’ final four points on his way to a season-high 23. Temple was a 2-point favorite in the game that ended in a sh. It was a relatively easy win for er’118-point bettors. The win stopped an 11-game NCAA Tournament losing skid for Temple head coach Fran Dunphy, a skid that started while he was coaching at University of Pennsylvania.
I am wagering on the Temple Owls today. This will be a low-scoring tight game. I believe this game will come down to the final minutes to decide the outcome. Ill gladly take the 6-points in this situation with the Temple Owls, to at the very least cover and possibly win the game.
