Portland Trailblazers vs. Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic is 2-point home favorites over the Portland Trailblazers this evening in Orlando. The over/under total for the game is set at 187. Center Dwight Howard will miss this contest after picking up his 16th technical foul this season. That carries an automatic one-game suspension.
The Orlando Magic are 40-23 overall and 30-33 against the spread. The Magic remade their roster with two December trades that brought Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark to Orlando for Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat. They were 16-10 before making the trade; since they the Magic have gone 24-13. The only weakness now is a backup for their star center. Dwight Howard is ninth in the league in scoring with 23.1 points per game and second in rebounds with 13.9 rebounds per game. Howard is also second in the NBA in block shots with 2.31 per game. He has also been playing more than 40 minutes per game since Gortat got traded. Orlando had a four game winning streak snapped Friday at home against Chicago 89-81 as 2-point favorites. The 170 combined points scored against Chicago went way der the 190-point total. The der is 11-2 in Orlandos last 13 games. Orlando is 4-0 overall and against the spread in their last four games following a defeat.
The Trailblazers are 35-27 overall and 32-30 against the spread this year. They currently sit in sixth-place in the Western Conference, but certainly arent guaranteed a playoff spot. This is the first of a four-game Southeast Division swing. Portland traded Joel Pryzbilla, Dante Cunningham and two first round picks for small forward Gerald Wallace from Charlotte. Portland is 3-2 since making the trade and 2-3 against the spread since the trade was announced. Wallace has been averaging 10.5 points per game since getting traded to Portland, coming off the bench in each game. The Trailblazers have won their last two games and have covered in both. They beat Charlotte 93-69 as 11-point home favorites last Saturday. The Trailblazers are lead by LeMarcus Aldridge and his 22.3 points per game.
These teams met in Portland back in December and the Trailblazers won 97-83 as 2-point home underdogs. Howard dominated down low with 39 points despite the loss, while Aldridge was just 5-of-15 from the field for 14 points. I believe today Portland will win again and cover due to Howards suspension. To me, this game is a no-brainer. Take Portland plus the 2 points for an easy win.
