Missouri Tigers vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Big 12 Tournament begins Wednesday in Kansas City and the Missouri Tigers will face Texas Tech Red Raiders and recently fired coach Pat Knight. Missouri is 10-point favorites over Texas Tech and the over/under total is set at 154.
The Missouri Tigers are 22-9 overall and 13-13 against the spread this year. They are in the midst of a 3-game losing streak, finishing a disappointing 8-8 in the Big 12. That conference mark was tied for fifth place with Colorado. Missouris last game was Saturday, a 70-66 home loss to Kansas as four-point underdogs. The 136 combined points scored went way der the 157-point total. The der is 4-1 in Missouris last five games, scoring just 69.4 points per game. The 81.5 points per game season average is second in the conference and ninth in the country. The Tigers easily lead the Big 12 in turnover margin with 5.39 and are second in three-point attempts with 620. Junior guard Marcus Denmon is the teams leading scorer with 16.8 points per game.
Texas Tech is 13-18 overall and 11-15 against the spread. School officials decided to fire head coach Pat Knight on Monday although he is coaching the team in the conference tournament. Pat Knight had a record in his three seasons as coach of 50-60. This years team underachieved, although it finished up conference play stronger at 5-7 overall and 9-3 against the spread in their last twelve. This is a veteran squad with the top-4 scorers all seniors.
Texas Tech went to Missouri on February 15th and lost 92-84. Texas Tech shot 49.2 percent from the field, but allowed Missouri to hit at a 58.1 percent clip. The Red Raiders did get the ver as big 16 ½-point underdogs. The favorite was 9-1 against the spread in the previous 10 meetings. The 176 combined points scored went er the 157-point total. The er is 4-1 in the last five meetings between the teams.
I am taking the Texas Tech Red Raiders plus the 10-points. I believe they will play extremely hard for their recently fired head coach. This is a mature team led by seniors who will be looking to make one last run together. They have played better of recently while Missouri has struggled. The Red Raiders may not win but I don’t believe they will be competitive. Therefore, my wager is the Texas Tech Red Raiders plus the ten points.
