Denver Nuggets vs. Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns are listed as 4-point favorites over the Denver Nuggets tonight.  The over/under total for the game is 216. While most of the focus this time of year is on March Madness, there is still plenty of action going on in pro basketball.

The Denver Nuggets are 37-27 overall and 33-31 against the spread.  They conclude their brief three-game road trip this evening. Denver presently resides in fifth place in the Western Conference, but just a game and a half separates fifth from eighth. Denver was riding a three-game winning streak before falling to the Los Angeles Clippers Saturday as a two-point road underdog, 100-94.  The combined 194 points never seriously threatened the 208-point closing total. The Nuggets had covered seven games in a row before their setback to the Clippers. Center Nene paced the Denver offense with 25 points while tying a season high with 14 rebounds.  Power forward Kenyon Martin had 11 points in the setback, while point guard Ty Lawson added 11 points and 8 assists.

The Phoenix Suns are 33-29 on the season and 29-33 against the spread. The Suns find themselves a game and a half behind Memphis for the eighth and final postseason slot.  Phoenix remains in second place in the Pacific Division, but a sizeable 11-games behind the Los Angeles Lakers. Phoenix has alternated wins and losses its last five games after outlasting Houston Tuesday as a four-point home favorite, 113-110.  The combined 223 points toppled the 218-point closing total, helping the er improve to 7-2 in Phoenixs last nine games. Forward Hakim Warrick stepped up with 32 points and eight rebounds in the win, while guard Vince Carter added 32 points and 6 rebounds.  Forward Grant Hill had 19 points and 4 assist for the Suns as well.

The home team has won the last five games in the Denver-Phoenix series while going 4-1 against the spread. The Nuggets won the latest game on January 11th as a 4-point home favorite, 132-98.  The combined 230 points eclipsed the 218-point closing total, helping the er improve to 3-1 the previous four meetings.  Today, I like the Suns to cover at home and keep the streak of the home team winning.  I am laying the 4-points with Suns.  I expect a good close game but see the Suns pulling away in the 4th quarter.
