Chicago Bulls vs. Atlanta Hawks
The Chicago Bulls are 4-point road favorites this evening when they travel to Atlanta to play the Hawks. The over/under total for the game is set at 180.
The Chicago Bulls are 49-19 overall on the season and have a record against the spread of 44-24. Chicago had its eight-game winning streak snapped on Friday after losing 115-108 in overtime to the Indiana Pacers. The defeat also ended the clubs winning streak against the spread, though the Bulls are still 7-2 in their past nine games against the spread. The Bulls had been riding an impressive wave of defense before stumbling in Indiana. Chicago had held each of its past 12 opponents to less than 90 points, giving up just 81.6 points per game in that span. Thats clearly elite defense and, given the talent at the offensive end of the floor, its no surprise the team has caught Boston for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls has plugged away this season despite numerous injuries. The latest casualty was Carlos Boozer, who has sat out five straight games with a sprained ankle. Obviously, Chicago hasnt missed his 18.3 points and 9.6 rebounds per game too much, as the wins keep piling up. He could return against Atlanta.
The Atlanta Hawks are 40-30 on the season and are 31-39 against the spread. Atlanta beat the Pistons 104-96 on Sunday. The Hawks are 3-2 in their past five games, a big improvement after a recent four-game skid. Theyve also covered three of their last five games against the spread, including the win over Detroit. A players-only meeting preceded the Detroit win. Atlanta was coming off miserable back-to-back losses and obviously the players were fed up. Whether or not they can sustain anything remains to be seen.
I believe they can sustain the positive energy after beating Detroit and in fact I expect them to play well tonight and pull off a surprise win over one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference. I am taking the Atlanta Hawks at home plus the 4-points in this game.
