UConn Huskies vs. Louisville Cardinals

The Louisville Cardinals are 3-point home favorites over the UConn Huskies in this important Big-East game.  The over/under total for the game is set at 139.

The #16 ranked Louisville Cardinals are 19-17 overall and 12-11 against the spread.  The Cardinals have been battling injuries all season with Jared Swopshire, Rakeem Buckles and Gorgui Dieng all missing time. Swopshire has been out the whole season, while Buckles returned last Saturday against Syracuse and Dieng last Wednesday at Cincinnati.  Louisville beat Syracuse at home 73-69 as two-point favorites, but lost 63-54 at Cincinnati as 1-point road underdogs.  Louisville is not very good on the road, where they have won just once in their last six games and have only covered the spread twice in their last six road games.  Their only road win in that span did come against UConn though, a 79-78 overtime win as 6-point underdogs.  Louisville is undefeated at home this year in conference play, winning all six of their games.  The der is 6-2 in Louisvilles last eight home games as Louisville has just allowed 62.1 points per game in those eight.

The #13 ranked UConn Huskies are 20-5 overall and 12-7 against the spread.  They are 8-5 in Big East play this season, which pits them in 4th place. The Huskies have has won and vered their last two games against Providence and Georgetown.  They were 1-3 overall and 0-4 against the spread in their previous four before this weeks play.  Guard Kemba Walker was 13-of 23 from the field against Georgetown for 31 points.  Coach Jim Calhoun has been looking for a consistent second scorer after Walker.  Sophomore forward Jamal Coombs-McDaniel has come out of nowhere for 48 points the last two games after averaging 4.5 points per game in the first 23 games.  Connecticut is 2-2 overall and against the spread in their last four meetings at Louisville.

Neither team is a high scoring team, with Louisville ranked # 32 in offense and UConn is ranked 56th in total points scored. Therefore, I am taking the der 139 in this game.  The lack of high-efficient scoring teams along with the intense defense that will be played makes this a solid wager. der 139 will win!
