Syracuse Orangemen vs. UCONN Huskies

The UCONN Huskies are a 3-point home favorite in Big East action against the Syracuse Orangemen tonight.  The over/under total is set at 139.

The Syracuse Orangemen started the season with 18 straight wins.  Since that amazing start, the Orangemen have lost four straight games surprisingly.  It is only the third time in Coach Jim Boeheims career that he has lost four straight games.  No Boeheim-coached team has ever lost five consecutive games.  The Orangemens latest loss was to Marquette on Saturday when they were defeated by a score of 76-70 on the road as a 2-point underdog.  The combined 146 points went der the total of 148.  Syracuse lost despite shooting the ball very well.  They shot 57.1 percent from the field against Marquette.  Last season, Syracuse was 3rd in the nation in scoring, averaging 80.9 points per game.  This season, Syracuse is ranked 64th in scoring; only averaging 74.3 points per game.

Connecticut is also coming off a loss in their last game.  The Huskies lost in double-overtime to Louisville 79-78 as 6-point home favorites.  The combined 157 points went er the total of 142.  The Huskies had won six straight games before losing to Louisville.  The der has cashed in the previous five games as well and would have been another der had this game not gone to overtime.  At the end of regulation there was only 118 points scored.  Connecticut is lead by the second leading scorer in the nation Kemba Walker.  Walker is averaging 24.2 points per game.  Shooting guard Jeremy Lamb has been playing excellent recently.  In his last four games, Lamb is averaging 18.7 points per game.

Last year, Syracuse beat UCONN 72-67 at home but failed to cover as a 10-point home favorite.  The combined 139 points went der the 146 point total.  I look for UCONN to extend Syracuses losing streak to five games for the first time in the Jim Boeheim era.  I will lay the 3-points and take UCONN at home.  Syracuse has struggled on the road this season in Big East play as they only covered once in their four games on the road in conference play.  I will also take a shot at the under.  Syracuse struggles to score and UCONN plays great defense.  I expect both teams to score in the sixties.
