San Antonio Spurs vs. New Jersey Nets

The San Antonio Spurs are 8-point road favorite tonight when they travel to New Jersey to play the Nets.  The over/under total for the game is set at 191. The San Antonio Spurs are currently in their eight game of a nine game road trip.

The San Antonio Spurs have the best record in the NBA, with a record of 45-9.  Their record against the spread is an impressive 35-19.  The Spurs have a seven-game lead in the Western Conference over the Los Angeles Lakers.  Saturday night the Spurs beat the Washington Wizards as 7-point road favorites 118-94.  Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker both lead the Spurs in scoring averaging 17 points per game.  Tim Duncan continues to lead the team defensively and in rebounding and is averaging 9.2 rebounds per game.  The Spurs are ranked sixth in the NBA in scoring with 103.6 points per game. They are holding their opponents to just 96.3 points giving them the second highest scoring differential in the NBA. San Antonio is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and just under 40 percent from three-point range.  San Antonio is 7-2 against the spread in their last nine road games and is 5-1 against the spread overall in their last six.  The tal has gone er in four of its last five games.

The New Jersey Nets are 17-38 on the season and 26-29 against the spread this year.  The Nets are currently in 12th place in the East and have won only two of their last six games. Center Brook Lopez leads New Jersey in points per game with 19.6 and rebounds with 5.7. Devin Harris leads the team in assists with 7.7 a game and is the second leading scorer with 15.1 points per game. The Nets are second-to-last in the NBA in scoring with an average of just 92.8 points a game. They are giving up an average of 98.6 points a game, which amounts to one of the worst scoring differentials in the league. New Jersey is ranked 28th in shooting with a field goal percentage of 44.1 percent.  New Jersey 3-3 against the spread in its last six home games and 2-4 against the spread in its last six games overall.  The total has stayed der in four of its last five games.

The San Antonio Spurs have won nine of the last 10 games against the New Jersey Nets.  The Nets however are 3-1 against the spread in the last four.  The total has stayed der in six of the last seven games between these two teams.

I am taking the der in this game only.  The Nets poor offense combined with the Spurs excellent defense makes me believe the Nets wont score much keeping the game as der 191.  I don’t see the Nets scoring more than 85 points in this game.
