San Antonio Spurs vs. Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls are 2-point home favorites over the San Antonio Spurs in the last game before the All-Star game. The over/under total for the game is 190.
The San Antonio Spurs are coming into their 9th consecutive road game. In the first eight they are 6-2 overall and against the spread. San Antonio became one of the few teams in the history of the league to win 46 of its first 55 games, and the mass majority of those teams have gone on to win the NBA Championship. Getting to 70 wins isn’t out of the possibility, though head coach Gregg Popovich is clearly going to be more concerned about getting to 16 wins in the postseason than he is 70 in the regular season.
The Spurs average 103.5 points per game, which is 6th in the NBA. They also rank 4th in field goal percentage shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 3rd in the NBA in 3-point shooting with 39.5 percent. Manu Ginobilli leads the team in scoring with 17.9, while Tony Parker contributes 17.3 points per game.
This is one of these big time statement games for the Bulls to prove they are a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference. Chicago took down its sixth straight home win and its third straight victory overall with a 106-94 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night in preparation for this one. Carlos Boozer is averaging a double-double on the season and Derrick Rose has been putting up MVP numbers as well. He is averaging 24.5 points per game and 8.2 assists per game. He has scored at least 14 points in every game he has played since December 18.
These two teams played in November and the Spurs dominated the contest. They won 103-94 over the Bulls. Last season, the Bulls beat the Spurs in both games though. I expect the Bulls to pull out the win this evening. The Spurs certainly should be worn down being on this long road-trip and the Bulls have been a hot team and will certainly come ready to play against the team with the best record in the NBA. Take the Bulls minus the 2 points.
