Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Villanova Wildcats

The Villanova Wildcats are 3-point home favorites over the Pittsburgh Panthers.  The over/under for the game is set at 139.  This should be an exciting Big East game with lots of implications of seeding for the Big East Tournament.

Pittsburgh is 22-2 on the season and 10-9 against the spread.  They have a three-game winning streak since Notre Dame upset them on January 24th.  They last played on Monday and beat West Virginia 71-66.  Pittsburgh rallied from a two-point deficit at half to win.  They ere led by Nasir Roninsons 15 points. Panthers leading scorer Ashton Gibbs did not play against West Virginia due to a knee injury that could sideline him at least two weeks. He’s officially listed as doubtful for todays game.

Villanova is 19-5 overall on the season and 12-9 against the spread.  Villanova lost their last game at Rutgers 77-76 as 5-point road favorites.  It was their third loss in their last five games.  They have also failed to cover the spread in four of their five games.  In four of Villanova last five games the der won.  The der is 10-9 overall in Villanovas games this year and 6-5 in conference games. Senior Corey Stokes, Villanova’s second-leading scorer, is listed as questionable for Saturday’s contest. Stokes has dealt with a hamstring injury much of this season and now is dealing with what has been diagnosed as turf toe.

Last season’s only meeting saw Pittsburgh come away a 70-65 winner at home as a two-point underdog to Villanova.  Villanova has won the last six games against Pittsburgh at home.  Villanova also leads the all-time series 32-28.   I am wagering on the der in this game.  139 points combined seems way too high for these teams that play such good defense.  I will also bet the Villanova Wildcats despite their recent poor play.  I look for the home crowd to squeak at the win and cover the 3-points.
