New Orleans Hornets vs. New Jersey Nets
The New Orleans Hornets opened as a 2-point road favorite against the New Jersey Nets. The over/under total for the game is set at 184. Both teams are coming into this game with three game losing streaks.
New Orleans opened the season winning their first eight games of the season and winning eleven of their first twelve. After that hot start, the Hornets lost nine of their next twelve games. The Hornets are the streakiest team in the NBA. They also have a 10 game winning that occurred in January. Now, though the Hornets have lost five of their last six and three in a row. The Hornets are 32-21 overall, but only 12-14 on the road although they have covered in eight of their last 11 road games. The Hornets are ranked #2 defensively in the NBA, allowing only an average of 92 points a game. In their last five games however, they have been giving up 100 points a game. The Hornets lost their last game on Monday to the Timberwolves 104-92 as an 8-point home favorite. It was just the third road win for the Timberwolves this season. Chris Paul scored 17 points and had 13 assists. Emeka Okafor missed the past four games due to injury. Okafor leads the team in rebounds, blocks and field goal percentage.
The New Jersey Nets are an improved team over last year when they only got 12 wins all season. This season the Nets already have 15 wins. The Nets are 12-13 at home and 14-11 against the spread in their home games. The Nets are the 2nd worst offensive team in the league, only scoring 92.5 points per game. The Nets lost their last game Sunday against the Indiana Pacers 105-86 as 1-point underdogs at home. The combined 191 points went der the total of 196.
The two teams met on Dec. 22 at New Orleans and the Hornets won, 105-91, as eight-point favorites. The combined 196 points went er the 186-point total. The der has cashed in 18 of the Hornets past 26 road contests. The er, though, has cashed the past six times the two teams have met, including five of the past six times in New Jersey.
I am taking the Hornets minus the 2-points to get back on track against one of the weaker teams. Also, I will be taking the er in the game of 184. With Okafor out, the Hornets will be giving up more points than usual. I expect the Hornets to win by a score of 101-91 tonight.
