Atlanta Hawks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are 7-point home favorites tonight over the Atlanta Hawks.  The over/under total for the game is 189. Kobe Bryant will attempt to help his Los Angeles Lakers teammates snap a three-game losing skid.

The game before the All-Star break saw the Lakers suffer an embarrassing 104-99 setback to a Cleveland squad they had defeated by 55 points a month earlier.  The Lakers also failed to cover as 11-point road favorites, which lowered their spread record to 25-32.  The combined 203 points went er the closing total of 200.  The der is 31-15 in the Lakers last 46 games and 34-23 overall.  The Lakers wasted Pau Gasols first-ever 30-point, 20-rebound game and watched a scrambling last-minute comeback against the Cavs fall short. It was Cleveland’s first victory in regulation time since Nov. 27.  One would think playing at Staples Center would help the Lakers snap this three-game slide.  The Lakers are 1908 at home and have a record of 10-17 against the spread at home.  The Lakers rank eighth offensively with an average of 102.3 points per game.  The Lakers shoot 46.8 percent from the field, which ranks them seventh.  They give up an average of 96.4 points per game, which is eleventh in the NBA.

Atlanta began this seven-game road trip with stops in Detroit and New York prior to the All-Star break. The Hawks defeated the Pistons 94-79 to begin the trip, but then suffered a 102-90 setback to the Knicks two days later.  Both games went below the total.  The der is 31-24 in Atlantas first 55 games and is 16-13 in its first 29 road games.  The Hawks also failed to cover against the Knicks as two-point road underdogs bringing the Hawks record against the spread to 25-30.  The Hawks road record is 17-12 overall and 13-16 against the spread. The Hawks are giving up an average of just 95.4 points per game, which ranks them seventh in the league. They are also allowing the opposition to shoot just 33.1 percent from beyond the three-point line, which ranks second in the NBA.

This will be the first meeting of the season between the Hawks and Lakers. Atlanta is 2-5 against the spread in its last seven trips to Los Angeles, with the er going 5-1 in the last six meetings in Los Angeles.  I am going to take the Lakers minus the 7-points to get off to a better start to the second half of the season then the way the ended the first.  I will also take the over 189.  Five of the last six in Los Angeles between these two teams went er and I expect the same tonight.
