Utah Jazz vs. LA Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are an 8-point home favorite over the struggling Utah Jazz.  The over/under for the game is set at 196.  The Utah Jazz will be looking for their first win on their road trip. The Jazz who are 27-17 for the season are 21-23 against the spread.  The Jazz have lost their last four games and have failed to cover in any of them.  They lost to Washington, New Jersey, Boston and Philadelphia.  Of those four teams only Boston has a winning record.  Recent struggles are due to the lack of defense.  They are allowing over 105 points per game in their last 10 ballgames compared to the 98.9 points per game they are giving up on the season.  The er is 8-2 in their last 10 games.  The Jazz are 12-10 on the road and 11-11 against the spread on the road.

The Utah Jazz score 100.1 points per game, which ranks them 12th in the NBA.  The tandem of Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap up front is a dynamic duo.  They average 34 points per game and 17 rebounds a game combined. Utahs best player is still Deron Williams.  He averages 21.7 points per game and 9.5 assists a game.

The Los Angeles Lakers are 32-13 on the season with a poor 20-25 record verse the spread.  This is the Lakers first game of a five-game homestand.  The Lakers defense has been improving in their last 11 games, as give up only 92.3 points per game on average and have won nine of those games.  The der is 8-3 in those last 11 games.  Los Angeles comes into this game well rested with three days off.  This is important due to the fact that the Lakers have one of the oldest teams in the NBA.  An interesting stat though is that the Lakers are only 1-6 against the spread when they have more than two days off in a row.  The Lakers are 17-5 at home this tear, but only 9-13 against the spread at home.  However, in their last six home games, they are 6-0 overall and 4-2 against the spread.

Utah beat Los Angeles in their early season match-up 102-96 as a one-point home underdog on November 26th.  The Jazz are only 4-12 against the spread in there last 16 games verse the Lakers.  I am going to take the well-rested Lakers to cover tonight and get revenge for their earlier season loss.  I am going to stay off the tal due to the Jazz being a good overall defensive team, but have not shown that defensive toughness recently.
