Providence Friars at West Virginia Mountaineers

Oddsmakers have made the West Virginia Mountaineers a 9.5 favorite at home verse the Providence Friars. The total for the game is set at 152.  West Virginia is 10-4 this season while Providence is 11-6.  Providence has lost their last four games all of which have been in conference play, while West Virginia has won their last two and are 2-2 in Big East Play.

West Virginia has struggled against the spread this year.  They are a measly 4-7 against the point spread.  Providence holds a better record against the spread at 7-6.

Providence is led by Marshon Brooks who averages almost 24 points per game.  Their second leading scorer is Vincent Council who scores 15 points per game.  Providence will need them both to be on top of their game if they hope to pull off the upset.

Casey Mitchell is West Virginias leading scorer.  It his last game he scored 28 points against Georgetown and hit seven 3-pointers in the game.  Providence will need to neutralize him and rebound the ball.  One of Providences great strengths is rebounding.  Providence ranks 25th in the nation in this category.

Last year West Virginia beat up on Providence at home 88-74.   I don’t believe that Providence has enough firepower to keep up with the Mountaineers of West Virginia.  I expect West Virginia to win this game by 15+ points.  I truly believe that West Virginia can and will put up 90 points in this game.  That is why I will go with the er as well.
