Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Syracuse Orange

The # 4 Syracuse Orange are 8-point favorite home favorites in their match-up against the Cincinnati Bearcats.  Syracuse has won their first seventeen games of the season, while Cincinnati, who is ranked #25th in the country has won sixteen of their first seventeen games.

Syracuse last played Wednesday night on the road and beat St. Johns 76-59 as a 3-point road favorite.  Syracuse defense was impressive holding St. Johns to only 36.8 percent from the field.  Cincinnati also played Wednesday evening.  They won at home against South Florida 74-66.  Cincinnati was a 13-point favorite in this game and did not cover the spread.  Cincinnati won despite allowing South Florida to shoot 45.7 percent from the field.

Syracuse is only 3-6 against the spread in their last nine home games.  The der has won in six of those nine games.  Syracuse is scoring 76.1 points per game this season.  Cincinnati is 2-1 against the spread in their first three road games of the season with the der also going 2-1.  In Cincinnatis first three road games they are only giving up 55.7 points per game.  Cincinnati leads the Big East in scoring defense at 55.6 points per game, while Syracuse is second giving up only 59.8 points per game.

Dion Dixon is the Cincinnati Bearcats leading scorer with a team high of only 12.5 points per game.  The Bearcats will need more of an offensive production if they hope to pull off the road upset.  Syracuse leading scorers are Kris Joseph who averages 15.3 points per game followed by Scoop Jardine who averages 13.8 points per game this season.

Syracuse won the only meeting between these two teams last year.  Syracuse was a 4-point road favorite and came away with a 71-54 win while covering the spread.

These two teams are built the same way.  Both teams rely on their defense to win games for them and there is not much of difference in the talent level of both teams.  I believe that Syracuse being an 8-point favorite shows a lack of respect for the Cincinnati Bearcats.  8-points is way to high of a number considering the fact that this will be a low scoring affair.  I think Syracuse may squeeze out a victory by two or three points.  Therefore the bet on the game is Cincinnati plus the eight points.

Cincinnati +8 Syracuse
