Australian Open Day 12 Preview and Picks

Another 1-1 day after Roger Federer was upset as a 3-1 favorite over Novak Djokovic.  The overall record is still a very positive number at 23-7.  Today, we focus on one match, the mens semifinals between Andy Murray and David Ferrer.  The winner of this match moves to the final to play Novak Djokovic on Sunday.  Make sure you place your bets at for all the tennis action. also has live wagering for this match and several different prop bets including who you think will win the first set?

Andy Murray -400 vs. David Ferrer +300

Don’t be fooled by Ferrer’s 3-2 lead over Murray in their head-to-head series. The Spaniard has earned all three wins on clay, while Murray has won both of their hard-court encounters in straight sets, including a 6-2, 6-2 rout at last season’s World Tour Finals. That said, Murray is not a terrible match-up for Ferrer. The underdog often has success against opponents who play like he does–move well, counter-punch, and pull the trigger when necessary–while huge hitters can overpower him. Ferrer looked awesome against Nadal (even if the world No. 1 was injured), so he definitely has a chance. Ferrer will have to bring the same intensity and focus he brought to the courts against Nadal.  He will not be able to drop his play at any point during the match.  If this were on clay, I would give Ferrer an excellent shot at winning.  On hard courts, though, an upset is too much to ask. I believe that Murray will advance in 4-tough sets, setting up a finals date with Novak Djokovic.
