Utah Utes take on Boise State in Las Vegas MAACO Bowl

The Utah Utes will face the Boise State Broncos in Las Vegas for the MAACO Bowl Wednesday December 22nd. The game could be the best non BCS game of the bowl season and could have huge ramifications for the standings to begin the year in the 2011 NCAA football season. Sportsbook.com has posted the Broncos as a prohibitive 17 point favorite over the Utes in this game.

The Utah Utes were dismantled this season on their home field by a TCU team that is headed for the Rose Bowl to take on the Wisconsin Badgers of the Big 10. Boise State was under consideration for a BCS bowl until they collapsed in a crucial game against the Nevada Wolfpack and their kicker shanked two game winning field goals to be eliminated from BCS consideration.

Both teams have less than perfect records against the spread this season. Boise State is 8-4 against the spread overall and the Utes are 7-4-1 against the spread this season. One interesting note is the teams performances against the spread when on the road. Utah is 4-2 against the spread when away from home and the Broncos are 3-3 against the spread when away from their blue smurf turf.

Boise State has a decided edge on the offensive side of the ball. They have averaged an amazing 521 yards of offense per game. 202 yards of their total offense have been accumulated on the ground and 319 yards have been through the air with Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Kellen Moore. Moore is a quarterback with ice water in his veins and if this game comes down to the wire he will put the Broncos over the top.

The Utah Utes are strong on defense but not as solid as the Broncos who also have the edge with the least yards allowed on defense. The Utah Utes will not win this game outright but they will cover this game. Take Utah +17 points over the Broncos but do not bet them straight up no matter how tempting it is to bet the +550 number posted by sportsbook.com.
